Anniversary of the Murder of Sr. Dorothy Stang, SNDdeN
Sr. Dorothy 74, was shot to death in the Amazon jungle in Brazil on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005. She was renowned throughout the Amazon region for her work with the poor and landless and for her efforts to preserve the rain forest. Loggers and land speculators in the region have been angered over new land-use and ownership regulations and have been violent toward those that want justice for the indigenous poor in the area and for the environment. --Adapted from Education for Justice -- See the Resources Section for a suggested prayer.

World Water Day
There are 7 billion people to feed on the planet today and another 2 billion are expected to join by 2050. Statistics say that each of us drinks from 2 to 4 litres of water every day, however most of the water we 'drink' is embedded in the food we eat. When a billion people in the world already live in chronic hunger and water resources are under pressure, we cannot pretend the problem is 'elsewhere'.

Archbishop Oscar Romero's Assassination Anniversary
Archbishop Romero became the voice of the people and spoke out against the poverty, social injustice, assassinations, and torture that many Salvadorans were affected by daily. His homilies, which were broadcast every week on the radio, were listened to by both his supporters and his enemies. He used his homilies to identify injustices and name the disappeared and murdered. On March 24, 1980, Archbishop Romero was assassinated by a single bullet to the heart as he finished his homily while performing mass.
