Spiritual Direction in a Post-Pandemic World

Recent years have been unsettling due to the life-changing pandemic, leaving many grieving, questioning God's presence, and feeling isolated and helpless against uncontrollable forces.

In this morning of reflection, we will discuss:

• Guiding people with distressed images of God
• Easing isolation
• Encouraging prayer amidst difficulties

Presenter: Kathleen Hope Brown, D. Min.

About the Presenter: Kathleen Hope-Brown, D.Min., is Director of Spiritual Care Services at the Saint Luke Institute in Silver Spring, MD, a psychological treatment facility for clergy and religious. She is the co-founder and primary instructor of the Bon Secours Spiritual Direction Institute. She is Affiliate Faculty in the Doctor of Ministry program and the Master of Divinity program at Virginia Theological Seminary, where she teaches spiritual direction and spirituality studies. She has also been adjunct faculty at DeSales University and Marymount University.  Previously, she was Dean of Students and Director of Formation for Ministry at the Washington Theological Union.

She is a member of the Salesian Scholars Seminar and is a past president of the Association of Graduate Programs in Ministry.  She received her Doctor of Ministry degree from Catholic University in 2002 and her Master of Pastoral Studies from the Washington Theological Union in 1997. She is the author of Lay Leaders of Worship: A Practical and Spiritual Guide (Liturgical Press, 2004), co-author of Companions on the Journey: The Gift of Spiritual Friendship (DeSales Resource Center, 2006), and numerous articles on spirituality and spiritual formation. Her article about spiritual direction with victims of abuse was published in Presence (Vol 23, No 4) in December 2017. She is married and has two adult sons.
