“Everybody that works here, you really feel that they breathe our mission and our values, which I absolutely love!” exclaims Sister Thuy Tran. Sister Thuy serves on the Mission Integration Team at Providence Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, California. Her passion for healthcare ministry is clear as she rounds through the hospital letting caregivers know how much she appreciates them.
With a master’s degree in Healthcare Mission and a DHA in Healthcare Administration, Sister Thuy’s educational background fits perfectly with where she serves. Her driving passion is to enhance Catholic Healthcare's mission, vision, and values. Sister Thuy’s strategy includes a multimodal approach, including the formation of leaders and caregivers and integrating the mission and values into the organization.
When not at Mission Hospital, Sister Thuy works part-time at USC as a campus minister at USC Caruso Catholic Center. She provides faith sharing and spiritual companionship with the undergrad and graduate students.
Sister Thuy believes that it was God that guided her to join the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange.
“As I was reflecting on this, I thought that God led the sisters to my family first, and that the sisters found my family before I found the sisters.”
In 1975, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange encountered and assisted Sister Thuy’s family, who were Vietnamese refugees. Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange provided housing for her family at the Motherhouse. Months later, Sister Thuy was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
As she began her life knowing the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, there was one moment that led her to think of the possibility of religious life. She attended a Come and See Retreat at the Center for Spiritual Development. This experience opened her heart to her God-given purpose in life.
“And as I was reflecting, I had many hopes, dreams and plans for my future, but God had other plans for me.” Sister Thuy embraced God’s plan and continues to listen to God’s call.
“Wherever God is sending me, I have responded.”
When Sister Thuy is not helping people at Mission Hospital or at USC, she admires God’s beauty by taking walks on the beach and enjoys traveling. She also loves spending time in solitude and having meaningful friendships.
Sister Thuy is open to walking wherever God leads her and is always ready to help anyone that needs assistance at the hospital and beyond.
“Always have a ready heart for the things people need, whether they are caregivers, patients, or their families.”
